Course Description

Advanced study of dental materials including ceramics (porcelain) and high fusing metal alloys. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Prerequisite: DT 253 or instructor permission.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Describe the nature, properties, application techniques and uses of porcelains used in dentistry.
  • Describe the sequence of procedures necessary to complete a porcelain fused to metal restoration.

Skills and competencies:

  1. Explain the nature, properties and uses of porcelain in dentistry.
  2. Identify the alloys used for fusing to porcelains and discuss the problems and procedures associated with this process.
  3. Explain the nature, purpose, and uses of high heat investments.
  4. Describe and discuss the purposes of, and the procedures used in electroplating.
  5. Explain the nature, physical properties and uses of dental resins in crown and bridge laboratory procedures.
