Course Description

Covers the administration of local anesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation techniques for safe and effective patient management of pain and anxiety related to dental procedures. Includes appropriate safety precautions, including handling of contaminated sharps.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

  1. Assemble armamentarium needed for delivery of local anesthetic.
  2. Prepare the dental operatory for delivery of local anesthesia or nitrous oxide sedation.
  3. Administer local anesthesia to patients in a safe and effective manner.
  4. Utilize nitrous oxide sedation for dental hygiene treatment in a safe and effective manner.
  5. Demonstrate injection techniques for maxillary and mandibular anesthesia.
  6. Follow appropriate safety precautions, including when handling contaminated sharps.
