Course Description

Provides a foundation for critical decision-making in the management of medically compromised patients during oral health care. Emphasizes precautions and treatment alterations for patients with medical complications and protocols managing a medical emergency.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Recognize conditions that require consultation, referral, special precautions, or consideration prior to or during dental hygiene care.
  2. Plan critical treatment considerations or alterations requiring procedures to prevent harm to patients.
  3. Use appropriate responses in simulated emergency situations.
