Course Description

Covers advanced concepts in the clinical aspect of dental assisting. Continues exploration in dental specialties.

Addendum to Course Description

Emphasis will be placed on pediatric and public health dentistry. Expanded knowledge in oral hygiene home care products, removable prosthodontics, and best practices management.  

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Understand the various roles and responsibilites of auxiliary personnel as they relate to dental specialties.
  2. Recognize the procedural steps, armamentarium, instrumentation, and post operative instructions for various dental specialties.
  3. Recognize the clinical steps involved (including home care instruction) in the fabrication of a removable prosthodontic.
  4. Inform patients of available oral health products and their uses.
  5. Demonstrate responsible, safe, and effective methods for the disposal of hazardous waste following best practices management.
