Course Description
Introduces safe work practices for hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs), focusing on high-voltage (HV) systems, hazard identification, and proper procedures for working in electrically safe conditions. Prepares students to take the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) xEV Level 1 certification exam, “Electrical Safety Awareness.”
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify high-voltage (HV) components and labeling used in hybrid and electric vehicles.
Explain electrical hazards including shock, arc flash, and thermal risks.
Differentiate between energized and de-energized vehicle states.
Describe proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for HV systems.
List steps required to establish an electrically safe work condition.
Outline lockout/tagout (LOTO) concepts in an automotive context.
Distinguish between safe vs. unsafe practices when working around EV systems.
