Course Description

Builds on foundational EV Safety Awareness to prepare technicians to safely disable, test, and work on high-voltage systems in hybrid and electric vehicles. Emphasizes establishing electrically safe work conditions, verifying absence of voltage, and performing basic diagnostic procedures. Prepares learners for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) xEV Level 2 certification exam, “Technician Electrical Safety.”

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Demonstrate how to safely disable high-voltage systems following manufacturer procedures.
Verify absence of voltage using appropriate test equipment.
Demonstrate proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for Electric Vehicle EV systems.
Select and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and insulated tools.
Perform basic electrical measurements (voltage, resistance, continuity).
Interpret service information and wiring diagrams for Electric Vehicle (EV) systems.
Apply safe diagnostic approaches when working on energized/de-energized systems.
Demonstrate safe re-energization procedures.
