Course Description

Provides advanced training in diagnosis, service, and repair of hybrid and electric vehicle systems. Emphasizes high-voltage battery systems, power electronics, electric drive systems, and integrated vehicle controls. Students develop diagnostic strategies using industry-standard tools and service information. Prepares students for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) L3 certification exam, “Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist.”

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Diagnose high-voltage battery system faults using data-driven analysis.
Analyze hybrid and electric vehicle system operation, including energy flow and system integration.
Interpret OEM service information, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic procedures.
Operate advanced diagnostic tools, including scan tools, oscilloscopes, and digital multimeters.
Evaluate battery state-of-charge (SOC), state-of-health (SOH), and degradation patterns.
Solve inverter, converter, and electric drive system failures.
Apply safe work practices when performing advanced diagnostics on high-voltage systems.
Perform system validation and post-repair verification procedures.
