Course Description

Explores how to apply permaculture in formal and alternative educational settings, using practical methodologies to improve learning spaces, strengthen curriculum and program design, connect subjects, and bring learning to life.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

1) Apply principles of permaculture as a tool for problem-solving issues and challenges that arise in the role of teaching children, and secondarily but also importantly, navigating the expectations of parents and institutions.

2) Recognize and connect resources and needs across a range of contexts such as the physical learning space, educational materials and supplies, class management, and links to wider community projects, learning environments and opportunities.

3) Advocate for wider adaptation of permaculture-informed practices beyond a single class or classroom that shift institutional culture and practice towards these practical and accessible methods of bringing learning to life.
