Course Description

This workshop will cover the importance and benefits of structural pruning, especially for trees planted in urban landscapes. Using small caliper trees donated by local nurseries, we will practice the hands-on component of structural pruning to reiterate what's learned in the classroom.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

Identify between decurrent and excurrent tree habits
Apply the theory of apical dominance when making pruning cuts
Prune to maintain a central leader following industry standards for structural pruning
