Course Description

Course will include wiring of discrete DC and AC sensors and loads to common modules using multiple brands of PLCs. Programming will include connection through various interfaces and basic series/parallel ladder diagrams with basic math applications.

Intended Outcomes for the course

  • Configure and install various PLC CPUs and modules
  • Connect devices to DC input and DC/relay output modules
  • Connect devices to AC discrete input and output modules
  • Interpret schematics to verify wiring of NPN / PNP devices
  • Troubleshoot hardware failures, both field devices and I/O modules
  • Connect to a PLC through software (USB, serial, network, etc)
  • Create, recognize, and interpret basic ladder logic programs
  • Use common input contact and output coil commands in a program
  • Implement basic timers, counters, and math operations
