Course Description
Focuses on implementing the 4 processes of Motivational Interviewing (MI); with a particular emphasis on applying the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing, evoking and responding to preparatory change talk, gauging readiness to change, building on commitment change talk and supporting change.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Explain the major theories of motivation and describe how they apply in everyday practice.
Identify the stages of change in the Wheel of Change model and apply appropriate interventions for each stage.
Demonstrate the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing in client interactions.
Apply the four processes of Motivational Interviewing to guide effective conversations.
