Course Description

This is Part 2 of a 2 course sequence that covers EMT-Intermediate emergency medical procedures. It Includes review of part 1, and adds medical patient assessment and considerations such as pediatrics, geriatrics, and environmental emergencies. Clinical decision-making skills will be emphasized. Procedures related to airway, oxygen, ventilation, intravenous/interosseous infusion, EKG monitoring and recognition, and pharmacology will be taught in the laboratory component. The clinical experience will require students to observe patient assessment and evaluation in the clinical setting as approved by OR DHS. Students successfully completing the sequence will be recommended to DHS-EMS for the certification process. Failure of this course will require taking the full sequence of EMT-I again.
