Course Description

Provides an opportunity to apply classroom learning through work experience in animal care and management at the Oregon Zoo, supervised by professionals on site and by program instructor(s). May be taken up to four times for credit. Department permission required.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion, students should be able to:

Undergo continuous improvement of personal and professional competence through the real-life application of knowledge, techniques, procedures and skills used in the management of zoo animals.

Course Activities and Design

An internship experience for the student working under the supervision of both the on-site zoo professional and the Biology and Management of Zoo Animals faculty.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Identify learning objectives and related activities at the beginning of the placement, in collaboration with the on-site supervisor and Biology and
  • Management of Zoo Animals faculty Consistently work the agreed upon hours and engage in the identified activities.
  • Participate in an end-of-term evaluation process
