Course Description
Explores double-entry accounting in a fully integrated computerized general ledger software. Includes topics such as general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and inventory. Prepares students to sit for Intuit Certified QuickBooks User Exam. Recommended: CIS 120 OR BA 216A. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate the application of accounting theories in preparing digital financial reports.
- Apply accounting procedures to record and organize business transactions in accounting software.
- Use online communication tools to collaborate and adapt to evolving technology, software, and applications.
- Identify and resolve errors in transactions entered into accounting software.
- Use knowledge of accounting principles and skills in utilizing accounting software to prepare for Intuit QuickBooks Certified User Exam.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the concepts described in the required competencies by any combination of the following:
- Attendance and participation in class activities
- Input data in accounting software to organize records and prepare financial reports
- Presentations
- Individual or group projects
- Completion of assessment or certification-style examinations
- Other assessments such as quizzes, exams, etc.

This is a “hands-on” course and requires accurate and timely data entry in accounting software and interoperation with pdf, jpeg, CSV files and Excel spreadsheets.

- Demonstrate basic skills in entering accounting information into a computerized accounting system.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the need for quality of data entry in accounting.
- Demonstrate an understanding of accounting and business records and reports.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a basic accounting vocabulary.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of computers and computerized accounting software.
- Apply knowledge of accounting principles and skills in using QuickBooks to sit for Intuit Certified QuickBooks User Exam.
Competencies, Skills:
- Record business transactions in accounting software by working independently and process data via written instructions.
- Communicate collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders through the use of online communication tools and apps.
- Integrate knowledge of accounting principles and use of accounting software in preparing various financial statements and reports.
- Establish procedures to verify accuracy in data entered into accounting software, and locate and fix errors as applicable.
- Adapt to updates in software, technology, and other online apps.
- Prepare to sit for Intuit Certified QuickBooks User Exam.
