Course Description
Addendum to Course Description
This course is designed to complete the first stage of the Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter flight training and to begin meeting the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for a Commercial Pilot Certificate. Lecture / discussion / demonstration sessions and lab practice supported by written and multi-media materials will present to the student the knowledge and skills necessary to perform oral and practical tests which are required to obtain a Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Helicopter certificate. This course will be taught following or concurrently with AVS 150. Knowledge areas that are taught in AVS 150 will be reviewed and revised if necessary to meet the completion requirements. A minimum of 55.4 of flight training lab time is required for completion of the course along with the minimum performance standards listed below.
Intended Outcomes for the course
1. Perform maximum performance takeoffs", steep approaches and slope landings with no instructor assistance.
2. Plan and execute an assigned cross-country flight to commercial pilot standards.
4. Approach cross-country flights with confidence and authority.
3. Maintain contingency plans and a high level of situational awareness during cross-country flights.
Outcome Assessment Strategies
At the Beginning of the course", the instructor will detail the methods used to evaluate and record student progress and the criteria for assigning a course grade. Evaluation methods will include written, oral, and practical testing. The instructor will immediately grade the stage check, and if necessary, have students complete a review and retake of the exam, until a minimum score of 70% is achieved. Evaluation levels will target those defined by FAA-S-8081-HD (or subsequent edition) Commercial Pilot Practical Test Standards, and required under 14CFR 141," FAA Approved Training Course.

Course Content and Outcome Guides are prepared by the Aviation Science Subject Area Curriculum Committee, are approved by College management and are based on 14 CFR 141 Appendix D 4 (d) (3) (I-x) which requires:

e ) Takeoffs, landings, and go-arounds;
f ) Performance maneuvers;
