Course Description

Covers operation of single-engine airplanes as it applies to FAA certified Private Pilot operations. Explores fundamentals of flight, air traffic control, operational procedures and aeronautical decision making. Provides the required ground and flight instruction and experience in preparation for FAA knowledge and practical tests. Flight training fees cover a specific amount of training; additional fees may be require.

Addendum to Course Description

This course is part of a program designed to meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for certification of private pilots airplane single-engine land.  Lecture/discussion/demonstration sessions and lab practice supported by written and multi-media materials, will present to the student knowledge and skills necessary to perform oral and practical tests which are required for FAA certification of pilots. This course will be taught following or concurrently with AVS 120. Knowledge areas that are taught in AVS 120 will be review and revisited if necessary to meet the completion requirements. A minimum of 35 hours of flight training lab time is required for completion of the course along with the minimum performance standards listed below.

Intended Outcomes for the course

1. Apply for and take the FAA Private Pilot practical test.
2. Obtain certification as a Private Pilot, Single Engine Land.
3. Exercise safe judgment in all flight related decisions.
4. Take responsibility as Pilot In Command to competently conduct the planning, preflight action, weather analysis and other procedures necessary to safely conduct flights appropriate to a Private Pilot certificate.

Outcome Assessment Strategies

At the beginning of the course, the instructor will detail the methods used to evaluate and record student progress and the criteria for assigning a course grade. Evaluation methods will include written, oral, and practical testing. Evaluation levels will meet or exceed those defined by FAA-S-8081-14S (or subsequent edition) Private Pilot, Airplane Single-Engine Land Practical Test Standard, and required under 14CFR 141, FAA Approved Training Course

  5. Performance maneuvers;

  11. Night operations, and
  12. Post flight procedures.
