Course Description

Presents an opportunity to discuss experiences, challenges, and successes in the clinical/treatment setting. Continues developing skills necessary for an effective counseling practice. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E, AD 221F, AD 226G. Prerequisites/concurrent: AD 245H. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Problem-solve ethical and legal issues that arise during the addiction counseling practice.

  2. Discuss application of theoretical knowledge to enhance practical counseling skills.

  3. Create and implement a personal self-care plan that contributes to longevity and health while serving as an addiction counselor.

  4. Engage in self-reflection to identify and address transference and counter-transference, biases and power dynamics.

  5. Develop skills necessary for effective supervision and interdisciplinary collaboration.
