Course Description
Explores instruction and supervision for practical application of addiction counseling. Provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in a treatment setting while working with clients under the supervision of a certified addiction counseling professional. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 141E, AD 221F, AD 226G, HUS 101, HUS 102, HUS 108, and (WR 115 and RD 115) or IRW 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement. Corequisites: AD 246H.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Explain the application of ethical and legal considerations in addiction counseling practice.
- Facilitate an assessment and diagnosis of addiction.
- Design evidence-based treatment plans for clients with addiction.
- Use a professional development plan to improve counseling skills.
- Identify situations when assistance is needed and seek advice from clinical supervisor.
- Collaborate with other professionals to assess client needs.
