Course Description

Explores instruction and supervision for practical application of addiction counseling. Provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge and skills in a treatment setting while working with clients under the supervision of a certified addiction counseling professional. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E, AD 221F, AD 226G. Prerequisites/concurrent: AD 246H.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain the application of ethical and legal considerations in addiction counseling practice.
  2. Facilitate an assessment and diagnosis of addiction.
  3. Design evidence-based treatment plans for clients with addiction.
  4. Use a professional development plan to improve counseling skills.
  5. Identify situations when assistance is needed and seek advice from clinical supervisor.
  6. Collaborate with other professionals to assess client needs.
