Course Description

Provides advanced knowledge and skills for addiction counseling. Explores strategies and techniques for building rapport, fostering trust, and promoting positive outcomes in the context of addiction counseling. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Analyze effective counseling skills through use of self-evaluations. 

  2. Interpret clinician and client behaviors to implement effective treatment interventions.

  3. Articulate and apply key elements of evidence-based practice models in the areas of counselor/client relationship.

  4. Apply a wide range of skills when working with clients in various phases of recovery. 

  5. Measure therapeutic functioning and empathy through use of measurement tools.
