Course Description
Explores clinical evaluation and treatment planning for individuals with addiction and co-occurring disorders. Covers various approaches to assessment, including screening tools, diagnostic interviews, and clinical assessments. Presents different models of integrated treatment and the principles of evidence-based practice. Emphasis will be placed on developing comprehensive treatment plans that address both addiction and co-occurring disorders. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

Identify and describe common co-occurring disorders associated with addiction by enlisting the use of ASAM, DSM-5 and ICD- 10.

Describe how co-occurring disorders inform assessment, treatment planning, and practices.

Apply a variety of assessment methods to identify relationships between co-occurring disorders and addiction.

Analyze, interpret and document assessment results to develop comprehensive treatment plans for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Define follow-up procedures to measure treatment outcomes.
