Course Description

Explores identification, understanding and treatment of a variety of behavioral addictions. Covers the educational requirements for gambling addiction counselor certification. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Identify the different types of behavioral addictions and their clinical presentations.

  2. Identify the underlying psychological and neurological mechanisms that contribute to the development and maintenance of behavioral addictions.

  3. Use a range of assessment tools to diagnose and evaluate the severity of behavioral addictions.

  4. Develop individualized treatment plans for clients with behavioral addictions, using evidence-based and other practice based evidence approaches.

1. Students will acquire the knowledge needed to apply for CGAC-1 registration.
