Course Description
Covers the spirit, core skills and fundamental processes of Motivational Interviewing with an emphasis on practical application. Taught completely in Spanish. Prerequisites: AD 142E and acceptance into the Addiction Counseling Program. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- Describe the philosophy and research that supports the efficacy of motivational interviewing.
- Identify the attitude, techniques, and strategies of motivational interviewing.
- Apply the method of motivational interviewing to a substance use counseling session.
- Evaluate a counseling session to determine its adherence with the method of motivational interviewing.
