Course Description
Covers the spirit, core skills and fundamental processes of Motivational Interviewing with an emphasis on practical application. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Describe the philosophy and research that supports the efficacy of motivational interviewing.
- Identify the attitude, techniques, and strategies of motivational interviewing.
- Apply the method of motivational interviewing to a substance use counseling session.
- Evaluate a counseling session to determine its adherence with the method of motivational interviewing.
