Course Description

Provides an exploration of the biopsychosocial factors that shape gender roles with an emphasis on men in addiction. Explores the impact these factors have on addiction, mental health, and behavior in addiction treatment. Prerequisites: AD 120E, AD 121E, AD 122E, AD 124E, AD 140E, AD 141E. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Explain treatment options, interventions, and processes as informed by biopsychosocial considerations for men and non-binary populations including harm reduction and cultural humility. 

  2. Develop strategies for working through transference and counter-transference when working with men and non-binary populations.
