Course Description
Focuses on diversity of populations using addiction counseling services. Emphasizes developing understanding of relevant cultural differences and building skills in addressing them. Prerequisites: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores. Audit available.
Intended Outcomes for the course
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
- Identify historical and current practices within the helping profession.
- Summarize key concepts used in effective multicultural counseling.
- Describe strategies for reducing barriers to treatment.
- Identify research methods used in culturally-responsive care.
- Articulate how one’s culture and worldview impacts behavioral dynamics.
