Course Description

Introduces Homeland Security and its function of coordinating efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive national strategy to secure the nation from terrorist threats or attacks. Agencies associated with Homeland Security along with their duties and relationships are covered. Explores historical events, laws, issues, communications, critical threats and other topics related to protecting the national infrastructure. Prerequisites: Placement into WR 121. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion students should be able to:

1. Use an understanding of Homeland Security history, organization and structure as a foundation to expand knowledge related to protecting the
national infrastructure.
2. Use critical thinking and communication skills to help prevent, prepare, respond and recover from terrorist-related or other crisis incidents.
3. Maintain situational awareness while assessing and evaluating potential threats to Homeland Security

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Methods of assessment may include the following: examinations, quizzes, an interview assignment report, research papers, class participation, role playing feedback, oral presentations and  group activities.

? Protecting the national infrastructure
? Responding and recovering from crisis incidents
? Evaluating potential threats
