Course Description

Continues to explore independent and applied physical exercise programs to promote physical activity in all areas of fitness, including: cardiovascular, resistance training, and flexibility/mobility, with a goal to improve body composition. Explores healthy behavior change through exercise, nutrition, and habits. Prerequisites: PE 182W. Audit available.

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate improved cardiovascular and muscular conditioning, flexibility, mobility and body composition through individually planned exercise program.
  2. Demonstrate behavior change techniques to improve overall fitness and well being.
  3. Design a life-long fitness program.

  • Maintain Physical Activity Log
  • Participate in Online Discussions

Outcome Assessment Strategies

  • Pre/Post physical activity and optional body composition testing.
  • Individual fitness participation.
  • Personal physical activity log and journal.
  • Participation in discussion assignments.
  • Introduction quiz over course requirements and syllabus.

  • Setting Physical Activity Goals with S.M.A.R.T and F.I.T.T principles
  • Explore the Components of Fitness including cardiovascular, resistance training, and flexibility and mobility. 
  • Intensity monitoring via target heart rate
  • Explore nutrition habits to support weight management 
  • Explore further components of health and wellness to create life-long fitness program
