John Stahl

John Stahl (1937-2017) was a painter, printmaker, sculptor, educator, and environmental activist born and educated in Michigan. Stahl moved to Portland in 1967 so that he could enroll in the Museum Art School in Portland (PNCA) where he was a student of Louis Bunce, Jack McLarty, George Johanson, Manuel Izquierdo and Eunice Parsons. Attracted by the beauty of the Oregon Coast, he built a house in 1979 on Netarts Bay near Tillamook and settled there permanently. Stahl was the subject of a retrospective at the Hallie Ford Museum in 2019. His work is in the collections of the Portland Art Museum and the Hallie Ford Museum of Art.
