Underlying Lucinda Parker's complex painting is her fascination with nature, with patterns, and with the rhythms of language and music. While at first glance, they seem spontaneous and gestural, a closer study reveals that her compositions are deliberate, and their surfaces show the marks of her continual reworking. Each gesture is considered, each color carefully applied. Parker, who received a joint degree from Reed College and the Pacific Northwest College of Art, is one of the region's best-known artists; her large-scale paintings can be found in public buildings around the Pacific Northwest.
