This small, moody drawing made along the Columbia at dusk with its stark contrasts of light and dark shapes and soft and hard edges is reminiscent of the drawings of Emily Nelligan (1924-2018), an artist whom Trowbridge admires. When asked about her work ethic Nelligan said simply, “The point is to work and everything will come.” The same might be said of Trowbridge, who has drawn and painted in the landscape regularly for over 35 years.
