This pastel drawing was made at one of Chamber Music Northwest's summer picnic concerts on the Reed College Campus in 2015. It celebrates the simple pleasures of how people gather to experience art and food in a beautiful setting. The composition has no focal point or center of interest-- its subject is the collective community. The soft, cool tones and deftly observed individual gestures speak to the sweetness of such moments to bring people together. The drawing, one of a series Beckerman exhibited in 2016 in an exhibition at The Golden Gallery called "Assaporare il Mondo" (To Savor the World), has gained poignance since the COVID-19 quarantines have postponed such gatherings.
