Portland Community College is committed to providing equal access to all students through the removal of architectural and attitudinal barriers. The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) has been an important part of Portland Community College since July 1972, serving both students with disabilities and the college's faculty and staff. Our OSD Team of professionals includes counselors, learning disability specialists, sign language interpreters, real time captioners, a coordinator of access resources, and other professional staff. Services offered by the Office for Students with Disabilities' are designed to promote independence and equal access to all academic and college related activities. These services include:

  • intake
  • counseling/advising
  • alternate media formats
  • communication access (sign language interpreting, real time captioning)
  • test proctoring
  • adaptive equipment
  • assistive technology
  • resource and referral information

Students with disabilities requesting services and /or accommodations are required to register with OSD. So that services can be arranged and provided in a timely manner students are asked to contact the OSD office as early as possible. OSD counselors work with students to determine which services best meet their individual needs. The OSD staff also serves as a support for the college faculty and staff. As you provide accommodations to students in your courses, we are available to answer your questions, and to offer information and assistance. You are always encouraged to contact OSD with your questions, or concerns.

The Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) provides in-class and campus access services to students. These services are designed to promote student independence and equal access to classroom and college-related activities for those students demonstrating an ability to benefit from the college experience.
