Course Description

Explores the connection between creative and technical skills required to develop digital multimedia projects. Covers planning, producing and implementation of interactive projects using industry standard software. Prerequisites: MM 230, 231, 235 and MM 270. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

Students who successfully complete this course will use industry standard software to produce multimedia titles. Assemble and test a variety of multimedia elements on one or more platforms for use in the multimedia project. Focus on the critical elements of interactivity and user friendliness in this advanced project.

 

Intended Outcomes for the course

 Upon successful completion students should be able to:

 

  • Plan, design and create interactive digital media projects using industry standard software tools.
  • Use project management tools for group productions.
  • Create a business plan including strategies to demonstrate how digital media projects add value to potential clients.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and critique interactive multimedia projects?in?progress and implement suggested changes.

Course Activities and Design

Course material will be presented in a lecture format. This course is designed to maximize learning through the use of strategies such as outcome based instruction, collaborative learning, contextual application and performance based assessment. Lecture material will consist of discussion, multimedia, and other educationally sound practices. Other activities will include hands-on utilization of professional production and authoring software. Demonstration and handout materials will be provided.
 

Outcome Assessment Strategies

Assessment is designed to indicate achievement of the course outcome and performance tasks. The instructor will outline the methods used to assess student progress and the criteria for assigning a grade at the beginning of the course. Assessment will be based upon a combination of in-class participation, attendance, examinations, and quality of the multimedia project(s). Determination of problem solving skills, team work, and communication skills may also be included.
