Multimedia Interactive Showcase

9am - 5pm, MAHB209

The PCC Multimedia department is proud to present a premier exhibition showcasing student work using graphics, audio, video, interactive digital media and animation to communicate ideas in entertainment, education, advertising and marketing. The showcase will be up from May 12th-16th.

Cascade Student Art Exhibit

9am - 5pm, Terrell Hall 102

See new work created in the past year by PCC Cascade art students. Guest juror Terri Hopkins (Curator Emerita of The Art Gym at Marylhurst University) will present awards at the Gallery Reception Wednesday, May 14 (4 – 6 pm).

New Architecture and Green Design: A Tour

9am - 10am, Meet at Project Learning Center, 815 N. Killingworth

Join architect and contractor for a presentation and tour of tnew buildings on Cascade Campus. Architect Nick Hodges of THA Architecture and Contractor Derrick Beneville of Hoffman Construction will discuss architectural design and building processes with a focus on green design. Attendees should wear sturdy shoes that cover your feet. We will be outfitted with safety goggles and vests for the tour.

Multimedia Student Film Screening

Enjoy a collection of short films from PCC student filmmakers from the Multimedia department featuring narratives, documentaries, music videos and experimental shorts.

Jason Rizos - Reading and Talk

10am - 11am, Terrell Hall 206

Come hear Cascade English Faculty, Jason Rizos, read from his recently published novel, Supercenter, a wildly imaginative work of science fiction. Rizos will also share his experiences with publishing and his creative process.

Social Justice and Art Panel

11am - 12:50pm, MAHB104

Listen to three local artists actively promoting social justice through their work: Local Artists Anne Greenwood, Dan Pillers, and Harrell Fletcher will meet with Psychology 250 to discuss Social Justice and Art. Moderated by PCC’s Sandy Sampson.

2014 Featured Artist Nicole Georges - Graphic Novel Artist Talks about Her Work

11am - 12pm, MAHB222

Nicole J. Georges is the Art Beat 2014 Feature Artist. This Portland based award-winning writer and illustrator has written an acclaimed graphic memoir, Calling Dr. Laura, which delves humorously and poignantly into romance, dysfunctional familial relations, and the artist’s long search for her biological father. She has published the autobiographical comic, Invincible Summer, since 2000, and her work has been featured in many publications, including Tin House, Vanity Fair, and Slate.com.

Brownish Black - Music Performance

Student Art Exhibition Gallery Reception

See new work created in the past year by PCC Cascade art students. Guest juror Terri Hopkins (Curator Emerita of The Art Gym at Marylhurst University) will present awards at 4:30. The Gallery is open 9 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday, but will be closed today between 2 – 4 pm for student critiques.

Kate MacDowell - Slide Talk & Ceramics Workshop

Portland-based artist, Kate MacDowell is known nationally and internationally for her exquisite representational porcelain sculptures. Come hear her talk about her work and demonstrate her process. Artist's website:

Ryan LaBar - Artist Slide Talk & Workshop

10am - 12pm, MAHB108

Ryan LaBar uses wheel-thrown, slip cast, and hand-formed clay components to create abstract ceramic aggregates, precariously held together with glaze. Hear his talk and watch his process. Artist's website:

Cascade Writing Teachers Read Their Creative Writing

1pm - 3pm, MAHB104

Come hear your teachers share their own creative work aloud. This special reading features no less than ten Cascade writing instructors reading from their own original poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction and screenplays. Readers will include Wendy Bourgeois, Lutgarda Cowan, Joe Fitzgibbon, Gail Jeidy, Cynthia Kimball, Elizabeth McLagan, Justin Rigamonti, Jason Rizos, Joan Swinney, and Melody Wilson. Gardner Mein will host the festivities.

"Anse and Bhule" by Sowelu Theater - Film Screening

7pm - 9pm, MAHB104

See a film screening created in Sowelu Theater's Video Education program dedicated to the development of young and emerging artists featuring a number of designers and actors from PCC Cascade.

Sowelu is a not-for-profit company run by PCC instructor, Barry Hunt.

"The Further Adventures of Anse and Bhule in No-man's Land," shot in a 70's retro art house style, is a post-apocalyptic drama of two cultures who survive a cataclysm. www.sowelutheater.org
