Art Beat Mural Project

Below is a study for the student mural project to be completed during the 2007 Art Beat week. The image accurately communicates the compositional plan and subject matter, but will be more elaborately completed in regards to detail and color saturation. The sculptures in the study, for example, are placeholders for what will be more accurate depictions of existing statuary from Greek and Roman antiquity. In general, the maze represents the path to education, the statuary represents pedagogy, and the birds represent the diverse student population. The fountain finally, represents the attainment of knowledge.

A canvas has been built that is 8 x 15 ft. At that scale, the finished painting should be very powerful. The students will be working on the project during Art Beat week in the Sylvania Campus mall on the northeast corner of the CC building.
