Week 3 homework (October 5 to 8, 2026)
Note: Please try to finish the homework before the next class. You don’t need to send it to me because we usually talk about the answers in class. Also, when you finish the homework & prepare for class, it helps me decide if you will be ready for the expectations of Level 4 or not.
Homework from class Monday, October 5, 2026:
1. Please re-write your “Hello” paragraph (like Student Book page 14) on another paper in pen and double-spaced (skip lines). Use 8-1/2 x 11″ notebook paper and blue or black pen. Correct the mistakes (errors) that I marked on your first draft. You should give this to me on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
2. Practice with should & shouldn’t <– Click here for the handout from class. Look at the examples and complete the exercises. For extra writing practice (recommended!), copy the questions and sentences into your notebook. We’ll talk about the answers in class on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
3. Review (read again) these pages in your Student Book:
- Student Book page 8 — the blue grammar box.
- Student Book page 12 <– Click here for the audio. Read about the four students. Which student is similar to you or someone you know? We’ll discuss this and goals in general this week.
4. Video from class Can and Should: English Grammar – Modal Verbs <– Click here for the video from class. Watch it again if you like and review the information. Note: The video is on Youtube, so you need to click on SKIP ADS.
Homework from class Wednesday, October 7, 2026:
1. Practice with should & shouldn’t (See below for the links to the handouts.) Complete and copy the exercises on each handout in your notebook. Example with #1 on the “practice quiz”: He should save his money. We’ll check your answers in class tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, 2026.
- Give advice with should & shouldn’t <– Click here for the handout from class.
- “practice quiz” with should & shouldn’t <– Click here for the handout from class.
2. Student Book page 12 “English is Frustrating!” — For each student, give one or two sentences of advice with should or shouldn’t + a verb. Write in your notebook. Examples: Ketsia should try some online listening exercises. She shouldn’t feel bad about mistakes. We’ll talk about your ideas in class tomorrow, Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Homework from class Thursday, October 8, 2026:
1. Study for your should/shouldn’t quiz that is on Monday, October 12, 2026. Review the warm-up handouts we did at in class and the video.
2. Writing: Who do you identify with? <– Click here for the handout from class. Finish writing about yourself. This is a “1st draft”, so pencil is okay, but please write on another paper to give to me and skip lines. We’ll talk about your writing, and you’ll turn it in to me, on Monday, October 12, 2026.
3. Student Book page 13, Exercises B, C, & D. Read the suggestions in Exercise. Then, for Exercise C, decide which are good ideas for Ravi, Ketsia, Maria Luisa and Lian. For Exercise D, please write in your notebook. Example:
- My strengths: reading and vocabulary
- My difficulties: listening and speaking
- I’m going to listen to songs in Spanish and try to sing along.
- I’m going to use a Spanish language learning site online.
We’ll talk about this in class on Monday, October 12, 2026.
4. Student Book page 16, Exercise B. Think of another suggestion to improve your English for each category. We’ll talk about this in class on Monday, October 12, 2026.
