PSY 215 Human Development

Human Development is a survey course. In this course we review a selection of topics related to human growth and change over the life-span.  As a survey course we get an overview of variety of subjects that in and of themselves could be individual courses.  For me Human Development is a subject that touches off my curiosity and I find myself always wanting to know more.

Course Description: Surveys major developmental theories and patterns of change and continuity from birth to death in human subjects. Emphasizes biological, cognitive, and emotional development through the lifespan. Examines cultural influences on development. Recommended: PSY 201A or 202A; Prerequisite: WR 115, RD 115 and MTH 20 or equivalent placement test scores.

Course Materials: Required Text: Sigelman, C. & Rider, E. (2022). Life-Span Human Development (10th ed.). Cengage. ISBN: 9780357304273.  ISBNs represent the textbook and the way it is published (loose leaf, hardback, etc) and there may be multiple ISBNs because of this.  The key is to compare the Author, Year, Title and Edition listed above to know if you are indeed looking at the correct version of the text.  Please note that the ISBN included is a bundle of the loose leaf and online resources which includes an e-book and text reader software. There are lower cost options for digital rentals at the bookstore.

General information about textbooks that might be helpful.  ISBNs represent the textbook and the way it is published (loose leaf, hardback, etc) and there may be multiple ISBNs because of this. The ISBN above is for the loose leaf version and if you search outside of PCC, will be useful. I have ordered a custom version for purchase in the Rock Creek Bookstore. The key is to compare the Authors, Year, Title and Edition listed above to know if you are indeed looking at the correct version of the text.

If you are unfamiliar with the bookstore, you can search for your text at the Rock Creek Bookstore.  Students can sell their books directly to other students through the marketplace.  If your textbooks this term are not available consider selling yours next term so that it is for the next group of students.
