5e: Fundraising Policy
- The Foundation office coordinates activities and fundraising campaigns for College programs and departments for donor designated program funds for excellence and specific scholarship funds. The Foundation also plans and implements cultivation activities and fundraising campaigns for unrestricted fund development and other College identified priority projects in accordance with the agreement between the entities.
- The Foundation office will act as the “clearinghouse” for fundraising cultivation and fundraising activities, attempting to match appropriate projects with donor interests. The Foundation will actively coordinate with the College grants office to ensure cultivation and proposal requests to private, corporate and governmental foundations and grant-making programs are aligned with College priorities, and where appropriate and following College grant guidelines, secure clearance and approval from College administration.
- The Foundation office establishes, administers and manages all scholarship programs established and funded by donor designated gifts and those funded by the Foundation general scholarship fund.
- Fundraising activities are governed by the following practices:
- All gifts of funds to the Foundation from private or other sources are deposited into Foundation accounts. The Foundation office issues receipts and acknowledgments for gifts to the Foundation.
- No commissions or fees are paid on funds raised to benefit the College.
- All Foundation fundraising activities are conducted in compliance with section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, and other relevant IRS provisions.
- The Foundation subscribes to the basic principles and recommendations of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP), and other such professional organizations with related missions.
- Support of Campaign Initiatives
In coordination with the College, the Foundation Board will support capital and comprehensive philanthropic campaigns by establishing campaign goals, identifying and approving campaign periods and purposes, establishing philanthropic naming policies, developing gift recognition guidelines, and determining the priority for the allocation of unrestricted campaign gifts. - Donor Privacy
The work performed by the Foundation is often of a sensitive nature. Development professionals and volunteers with access to donor and prospect information have a responsibility to protect the privacy of these individuals. All information collected should be accurate and relevant. All information, even information culled from public sources, should be treated as confidential to ensure that each Board trustee, employee, volunteer or intern thoroughly understands their responsibilities regarding prospect information of a sensitive and confidential nature. Any individual with access to this information must sign the Foundation’s Confidentiality and Privacy Statement.
