danceStudent's Perspective:

"My experience as the club leader for the Spanish Club gave me an edge in my professional pursuit to become a High School Counselor, besides giving me a great opportunity to network and share resources with other students that shared similar interests and goals"

Advisor's Perspective:advisor

'Clubs and organizations provide students with an outlet to implement and develop their leadership skill such as problem solving, goal setting, budget management and interpersonal skills. These are the skills that will be valued and sought after in a leader, in the larger community and by prospective employers.

Frequently asked questions about clubs

Do I have to attend each and every meeting or club activity if I sign up as a member?
No. Participation in club activities is on a voluntary basis. In order to be or remain a member of a club, you do not have to attend each and every club meeting or activity.
How do I sign up for a club?
You can either e-mail the Club Advisor & Club Coordinator of the club you are interested in by going to the List of Clubs or you can contact the Club & Program Specialist.
What are the benefits of getting involved?
There are many benefits in getting involved in extra-curricular activities on campus. Some of them are:
  • Enhance your resume!
  • Tailor your involvement according to your professional or academic goals.
  • Get co-op ed. credits for your time and effort, no different than an internship.
  • Take up a leadership role-use this experience as a lab to test/hone your skills and abilities and to highlight on your resume.
  • Network-meet people with similar professional/academic/personal goals.
  • Flexible! The extent of your involvement is entirely up to you, your availability and interest.
How much time commitment will I have to make to become a Club Coordinator of a particular club?
It could be as little as 30 minutes a week to as much as 10 hours a week. Again, it depends entirely on what you want to do or not do with the club activities. The Club and Program Specialist is available to assist you in pursuing your club goals, whether that be to provide a support outlet or to coordinate movies, speakers and other activities.
