The Birth of New Hollywood

The Birth of New Hollywood: American Cinema 1967-1975

American cinema saw an unprecedented burst of dynamic films during this time. After ten years of creative and financial stagnation, Hollywood sought out younger filmmakers, hoping to attract a younger audience. The results were both shocking and profitable, resulting in some of the best films Hollywood ever made. In this class we’ll explore the art and history of American cinema from 1967 through 1975.  We’ll use these films as a launchpad to discussions on the art, the business, the culture, and the evolution of American cinema. A collection of outstanding films have been selected for this course. Arrangements for viewing the films will be made available through a private Internet streaming service. There are no additional costs for accessing these the films.
