Portland Community College | Portland, Oregon Portland Community College

My name is Michele Maxwell and I provide academic advising for the Computing Department on the Sylvania Campus. Please visit my computer advising website for more information!

I advise for the following computer programs:

Computer Information Systems

CIS is PCC’s Information Technology (IT) program. CIS is not Computer Science. CS is a transfer path only at PCC, whereas CIS is a career technical education program that ends with an Associate of Applied Science Degree at PCC.

Students can start the beginning CIS classes any term as long as they have met the Reading, Writing and Math prerequisites through either our placement tests or through the completion of college coursework in English Composition and Math at PCC or another regionally accredited college or university within the United States.

Please start with my First Term Advising Guide for Computer Information Systems.

Computer Science (CS)

Computer Science is a transfer path only at PCC; we offer no certificates or associate degrees in Computer Science. CS is a math heavy major; students complete three terms of calculus, three terms of calculus-based physics, CS classes in C++, data structures, assembly language and higher programming before transferring to an Oregon University to complete their bachelor of science degree.

Please start with my First Term Advising Guide for Computer Science.
