Meeting Minutes
Present: Lonn Aldridge, Sheila Brown, Loren Radford, Narce Rodriquez, Mark Fennell, Mikael Snitker, Dieterich Steinmetz, Ken Goodwin, Laura Jones, Eli Herr, Jenn Gunn, Erin Morris, Andrew Brookins, Linda Reisser, Brooke Gondara, and Kendi Esary.
Absent: Justin Fritz (RC Student), Tony Stine (RC Student), Classified Rep
Guest: Karen Jolly
- Karen outlined the goals set forth by the EAC.
The committee goals set by the EAC are:
- Review the current policy and determine if it can be enforced
- Gather input from the entire college community
- Hold campus forums (all campuses, all employee and student groups)
- Address the issue of enforcement no matter what the policy
- Provide a recommendation to the EAC regarding the issue
- Rebecca Wale from Clark College provided a review of their four year process including the kinds of research, input, and / or policy considerations that we might need to consider in designing a plan.
Rebecca’s suggestions to the committee:
- Rebecca’s research showed that 10 shelters would cost $57,000
- Document all sources when providing information.
- Neutral communication with open dialog
- The use of the term Tobacco vs. Smoking should be considered.
- Clark took the approach of Student Access and limiting exposure to carcinogenic.
Clark held forums for all groups, surveys, union meetings, student leadership meetings, mailings, flyers, all college documents and newspaper.
3) Next Steps: There was discussion among the group about being non bias in our decision making.
Survey group of Linda Reisser, Kendi Esary, Andrew Brookins, and Mikael Snitker will draft a survey for the next meeting. Linda will contact IR to talk about survey possibilities. A survey will be developed that all stake holders can take.
The group hopes the survey will give the committee direction.
Research group: Lonn Aldridge and Ken Goodwin will look at other schools and bring back information to the group.
4) Next Meeting: April 26 at Central, room 301.
Future meetings will alternate between Wednesdays and Fridays.
