PCC Options Chart for High School Age Students
The information included on the chart is an attempt to describe the different opportunities available for high school age students at Portland Community College. We hope that this information will be useful to high school and PCC staff in advising students, as well as directly to students and their parents in choosing options which best fit their interests and needs.

Career Pathways - So, Are you prepared?
This website is a guide to assist students, parents, counselors, teachers, educators and others with resources around a particular career path. The pathways were designed by high school teachers and college professors whose expertise lies in that particular field. Each pathway is chock-full of information to educate students about:

  • Specific careers, including occupation descriptions, outlook and salaries
  • Recommended high school courses
  • Post-high school options such as certificate and degree programs at institutions throughout Oregon
  • Dual credit opportunities of earning credit for high school and college-level courses at the same time
  • Entrance requirements for local colleges
  • Student organizations to join while still in high school
  • Professional organizations to help in your research
  • Suggestions of different learning experiences that give students opportunities to view a particular occupation beyond a textbook or classroom project (i.e. job shadowing and internships)
  • Qualities desirable in future employees

Faces of students
PAVTEC is a "tech prep" consortium composed of all of the K-12 school districts that are within the Portland Community College district boundary, the college itself, and several other entities. The purpose of PAVTEC is to enhance the access of high school and PCC students to quality professional technical education.

This encompasses a broad scope ranging from career development and guidance programs to technical skill development instructional programs. PAVTEC coordinates a number of programs and services including the dual credit ("articulation") programs for high school students called Professional Technical (PT) and Lower Division Collegiate (LDC).
