TITLE: Women's Resource Center Assistant Coordinator

CLASS: Academic Professional




This position assists the Women’s Resource Center Coordinator to plan and implement Project Independence, as well as other programs and events sponsored by the WRC, and programs for single parents/displaced homemakers.  The incumbent assists with recruitment and intake, and provides on-going case management to program participants who continue their education.  The incumbent may also develop and deliver classroom instruction to the single parent/displaced homemaker program.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (Includes some or all of the following)

  1. Assists Coordinator in carrying out the day-to-day activities in the Women’s Resource Center; assists with providing retention strategies for program participants who enroll in regular coursework following completion of the single parent/displaced homemaker program.  Assures that each student understands academic skill requirements and is taking necessary coursework.
  2. Assists students with educational and career plans.
  3. Provides support for students facing personal situations that may impact school performance, and crisis intervention.
  4. Works collaboratively with career/technical program faculty and department chairs to bring career information to program participants.
  5. Assists program coordinator with the single parent/displaced homemaker program orientations and individual intake interview.
  6. May develop and deliver classroom instruction to the single parent/displaced homemaker program.
  7. May work with Coordinator to develop and implement an outreach communication strategy including print, electronic and website content development.
  8. Participates in quarterly meetings with other CG instructors.
  9. With Coordinator, develops opportunities for peer mentoring.
  10. Provides students with information about campus and community resources.
  11. Works closely with Counseling staff, student services areas, and faculty to implement student success initiatives that help to retain program participants.
  12. Assists Coordinator with the development and facilitation of student success workshops and other programs and events sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center.
  13. Assists in hiring, training and supervising WRC student leaders.  Assists WRC board in planning and implantation of programs and projects.
  14. May assist the Coordinator with the preparation of annual reports detailing program successes and challenges; and with identifying funding sources for the program.
  15. Provides one-to-one assistance with financial aid and scholarship applications.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Work is performed in an office and classroom environment.  Occasional evening and weekend hours required.


Most job time spent sitting with occasional walking, lifting, and guiding, and/or carrying of lightweight materials or equipment.


Bachelor's degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science or related field is required.  Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Positions that teach credit courses may also be required to meet the following requirements:

Master’s degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science, counseling or other related field required.

Experience working with at-risk women in the development of life and career goals.  Experience assessing student needs and coordinating educational and community based services.  Demonstrated background of working with diverse populations is required


Knowledge of:

  • Women’s issues and developmental needs;
  • Understanding the role of the community college in assisting women to become economically self-sufficient;
  • Understanding the scope and nature of the barriers faced by returning women students.

Skill in:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs of returning adult women;

Ability to:

  • Work with students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds;
  • Defuse emotional or tense situations and offer viable solutions;
  • Effectively communicate in oral and written form;
  • Work as a team player with faculty and other student services staff;
  • Solve problems and think critically.
