When it's time to take a quiz, start by clicking on the Assessments icon on your course menu.

(Note that your instructor may have chosen to customize the name or icon, so they might be slightly different than what you see here.)

This will show the Assessments list, which will display the names of various quizzes, exams and surveys.

Quiz Availability Menu

Next to the assessment you will see other information pertinent to it including Start date and time, End date and time.

Quiz Availability Field

Every assessment that is listed may not be available. If your instructor has made an assessment available, the title will be a hyperlink.

Quiz Duration Field

Important: It is very important that you wait to click on the hyperlink until you are ready to take the quiz. Otherwise it will be counted as one of your attempts to take the quiz, even if you don't even look at it.

Let's assume you are ready, and you click on the hyperlink. In this course, this is what you would see.

You'll click on Begin Assessment.Begin Quiz button

For each question, use the Down Arrow key to slowly scroll down the left frame until you get to the answer that you think is correct.

Select an answer by clicking on the circle next to your choice. Afterwards, be sure to click Save Answer. This lets the computer know that you've chosen an answer. This will send your answer to the server so it will be recorded in case  you get disconnected.

Note that an assessment can contain the following types of questions:

Multiple Choice:
students select either one or multiple correct answers to a question.
Matching:
match items in two columns. Example of a multiple choice question.
Calculated:
students answer a mathematical question. Example of a calculated question where answers are entered into a text field.
Short Answer:
students enter a word or short phrase, which is then matched against the possible answers. Example of a short answer question where answers are entered into a text field.
Paragraph:
students answer in a longer essay-type format. This type of question must be graded by the Instructor. Example of a paragraph answer where answers are entered into a text box.

Wondering how you'll know your answer has been registered? Blackboard provides a handy method so you don't need to be in doubt.

When you answer a question the yellow ball located under the question number will change to a blue checkmark. If you have answered a question and then decide to change your saved answer the symbol under the question number will change to an "!"

Question Status box

Please note that you should wait for the yellow ball to change to a checkmark before answering the next question.

If your quiz is timed you will have a count-down timer that will let you know how much time you have remaining before you have to submit the quiz for grading.
