22564 Paint with Bold Color in Gouache

Learn the basics of gouache, an opaque watercolor which you can use to create vibrant paintings. It is very portable, great for sketching with color or for creating finished paintings. Build your skills with this versatile medium.

Students will receive more information about the class one week prior to the start date.

*If you purchase the kit, you will still need  paper towels,  recycled water containers, pencil and eraser. A clip board, misting bottle and  tape are optional.

Supply List:

Note:  We are NOT using acrylic gouache in this class.

Winsor Newton Designers Gouache in these colors*:

  • Quinacridone Magenta (Pigment code:  PR122)*
  • Primary Yellow (Pigment code:  PY1 PY3)*
  • Primary Blue (Pigment code:  PB15)*
  • Ivory Black
  • Permanent White

*If you buy a different brand of paint, make sure the substitute colors match these exact pigment codes, not the color names.

  • Mixed Media Pad:  6” x 8” at least 140 lbs.  (140 lb Cold Press Watercolor Paper can also be used.  Larger paper is also fine)
  • 3 Small Synthetic Brushes: You can buy an inexpensive synthetic brush set.  (You will want at least one round brush and one ½” flat.)
  • Palette with a lid:  Air tight with additional mixing space OR a small 8.5″x7″x1″ Masterson’s Sta Wet Palette
  • Small misting spray bottle:  (Dollar Store)
  • Pencil and eraser
  • 2 Water Containers (Large recycled yogurt containers work great)
  • Paper towels
  • +Plastic or metal palette knife or plastic cutlery (knife)
  • +Masking Tape (Masking tape from the Dollar Store works well for this and is inexpensive.)
  • +Clip Board (Dollar Store) or piece of pressed board
