We had a fun class with some serious work and then some serious fun.  

We took the Welcome Unit Test.

We heard three student presentations about famous people.  You can see all the famous people here:  Level 2 Famous People

We listened to “Are You Ready?” by Barbara Mason.

We also listened to “We Are the Champions” by Queen.

Roberto said that he really liked the song “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston, so we listened to that and read the lyrics.  I told the class that the original song was written by Dolly Parton, so we watched that video also!  When music touches you deeply, we say we get goosebumps.

1.  Independent Practice #3 – If you listen to music in English, you can write about that.  What songs did you listen to?  What new vocabulary words did you learn?

2.  We are starting Unit 2 – The Family.  Study the vocabulary on pages 34 and 35.  Use the audio to listen to pronunciation.  Practice the spelling, meaning, and pronunciation of each word.  Write Exercises A, B, and C on page 35 on paper to give Davida.  Copy the sentences.  Don’t write only the answers.

How to Study Vocabulary

Longman Dictionary – Use this online English-English dictionary to look up each vocabulary word.

YouGlish – YouGlish = YouTube + English.  Use this site to hear and watch many examples of the vocabulary words.

For each vocabulary word that you learn, you need to learn:

• spelling

• pronunciation

• meaning – translation in your language and definition from an online English-English dictionary

• part of speech – noun, verb, adjective, or adverb

• Can you use the vocabulary word in a conversation?

• Can you write your own sentence with the vocabulary word?

• Can you read and understand the vocabulary word?

Complete the Unit 2 Packet by Wednesday, May 1. 

The Unit 2 Test will be on Friday, May 3.
