Description:

Learn to crochet from the ground up in this beginner-friendly, hands-on course. Whether you’re brand new to yarn and hook or looking to refresh your skills, this class offers a clear, supportive progression through essential crochet techniques. We’ll learn how to hold the yarn, chaining and basic stitches, terminology, abbreviations, crochet instructions, crochet charts, and a few lace making and granny squares. W

This course is organized around a series of progressive crochet projects, each designed to build specific skills. We will move through the projects at a pace that supports understanding and confidence, rather than by a strict weekly schedule. Some students may move faster or slower, and that’s expected — the emphasis is on mastery, not speed. Each project introduces new techniques that build on the last, so consistent participation and practice are encouraged.

We will explore the following at the pace of the class, which may vary.

  • Crochet on the round (a tube) using single crochet. Make a phone pouch or can cozy, or anything that can be made with a tube shape. Learn how to hold the yarn, how to make a slipknot. Learn chaining and single crochet. The first project usually takes a couple classes just to get a hang of how to hold the yarn and do the basics but once you learn it, things will go quickly.
  • Rectangular shape: Learn how to turn the work and go back and forth to make a rectangle of any size. Learn turning chains.
  • Chain spaces: Make crochet fishnet mesh, learn to make a market bag.
  • Increases and Circles. Learn to follow a chart. Make a hat or basket
  • Increases, decreases, magic circles. Intro to amigurumi and balls.
  • Double crochet and triple crochet.
  • Fans, shells, and chain spaces: Crochet lace.
  • Granny Squares
