Week 5 (February 2 to 6, 2026) homework

Note:  Please try to finish the homework before the next class.  You don’t need to send it to me because we usually talk about the answers in class.  Also, when you finish the homework & prepare for class, it helps me decide if you will be ready for the expectations of Level 4 or not.

Homework from class Monday, February 2, 2026

1.  Workbook page 12, Exercises H and I.  Listen to each audio recording and try the exercises. We’ll talk about the answers in class on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

2.  Student Book page 23, Exercise C, #4.  Finish the exercise in your student book, or, for extra writing practice, copy the exercise into your notebook. We’ll talk about the answers in class on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

3. Listen and read: Student Book page 30, “The Average Brazilian” <– Click here for the audio.  Read and listen to the text again.  Practice reading some of the text out loud.

4.  Continue to practice the clarification questions on your pink slip.  Try to memorize them and use them outside of class.

Homework from class Wednesday, February 4, 2026

Review, review, review for your Unit 2 test.  The Unit 2 test will be tomorrow Thursday, February 4, 2026 after CALL (computer) class. Note:  Students who review, even a little bit, usually do satisfactory work on the tests.

Here’s how to review:

  1. Review the practice quiz from class today.
  2. Review the quizzes we have taken so far.
  3. Review your warm-up exercises.
  4. Review the blue grammar boxes and exercises in Student Book Unit 2, pages 18 to 27.
  5. Review the Unit 2 workbook exercises, pages 8 to 12.
  6. Review the grammar handouts I gave you in class.

Homework from class Thursday, February 5, 2026

1. Preview Student Book Unit 6 (pages 81 to 96).  Look at the pictures. Look at the blue grammar boxes.  Look at the vocabulary boxes. Look at the different culture notes, reading notes and writing notes.  Get an idea of what the unit will be about.

2.  Student Book page 28 “The Average Community College Student” <– Click here for the audio. Listen to and read about community colleges in the United States.  Try page 29, Exercise B. We’ll talk more about this and the US educational system next week.

3.  Student Book page 96, Exercise B:  Calling 911 <– Click here for the audio.  Listen to the 911 call and think about the questions.  Have you ever called 911, here or in your country?  We’ll talk about this next week.
