Week 5 homework (July 20 and 22, 2026)
Note: Please try to finish the homework before the next class. You don’t need to send it to me because we usually talk about the answers in class. Also, when you finish the homework & prepare for class, it helps me decide if you will be ready for the expectations of Level 4 or not.
Homework from class Monday, July 20, 2026:
1. Student Book page 56 – Read the blue grammar box and try Exercise A. We’ll talk about it in class on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
2. Continue to do Workbook pages 24 & 25 — Complete the exercises in your workbook. The audio links are below. For Exercise I, please also write the questions in your notebook (like a dictation). * *We didn’t have time to check this in class today, so if you’re finished, review the exercises to talk about on Wed., July 22, 2026.
- Workbook page 24, Exercise G — Listen & look at the map of Florida.
- Workbook page 24, Exercise H — Listen & answer the questions about Florida.
- Workbook page 25, Exercise I — Listen & write the short answers about Florida.
3. Speaking practice: Practice the questions and short answers on Workbook page 21, Exercise C with a friend or family member. Example: Are there 50 states in the U.S.? Yes, there are.
4. Please bring an outline map of your country. Here is an example:
You can print a map out from this website (click on the letter of your country), or you can draw an outline in your notebook. Please make the image or drawing big enough to draw cities and mountains on — 8½ x 11 inch or “A4” paper. We’ll talk about your maps in class on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 to practice the geographic vocabulary and sentences & questions with There is/There are.
Homework from class Wednesday, July 22, 2026:
1. Student Book page 55, Exercise A and Exercise B. For Exercise B, use the words to write sentences about your native city. Example: There are a few colleges and universities in Mexico City. There isn’t any snow in Mexico City. We’ll talk more about this in class on Monday, July 27, 2026.
2. Listening about Montana: Student Book pages 58 & 59, Exercises C & D. Listen to the audio about Montana (<– click here). Try Exercises C & D. Complete the exercises in your student book, or, for extra writing practice (recommended!), copy the exercises into your notebook. We’ll check your answers in class on Monday, July 27, 2026.
3. Workbook page 22 and 23, Exercises E and F. Complete the exercises in your workbook, or, for extra writing practice (recommended!), copy the exercises into your notebook. We’ll check your answers in class on Monday, July 27, 2026.
4. Video: This Land is Your Land <– Click here for watch the video of Anna & Marsha and their trip across the United States. What places do they visit?
5. Listen to “This Land is Your Land”, the original folk song by Woody Guthrie. He wrote it in 1940. It is very famous, and most Americans know at least the first stanza. Read along with the lyrics I gave you in class. Just enjoy the song. It’s part of American culture. Note: The song is on Youtube, so you need to SKIP ADS at the beginning.
